ABOUT the Dug

The EEB Undergraduate Group Team

The Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EEB) Undergraduate Group aims to develop a community among the undergraduates concentrating in EEB and to encourage collaboration with those from related fields (marine biology, environmental science, conservation biology, geology, etc.) Our DUG leaders heard and acted upon the requests vocalized by our peers, and by our faculty, to unify the undergraduate community and provide resources for academic and professional development.

We connect students with similar academic interests and help them find research opportunities on and off campus. We provide avenues for conversations and connections between faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates, including advice on graduate school applications and careers in EEB. Finally, our goal is to promote diversity in a traditionally homogenous field through community building, programming events, outreach, and changes in EEB representation.

I study marine community ecology in the Galapagos Archipelago with the Witman Lab at Brown. I'm also on the advisory board for Fish 'n Fins, a program that teaches young Caribbean girls to swim, snorkel, and learn about marine science.

I am interested in mechanisms controlling emergent patterns from biological systems.  I particularly am interested in considering these from a paleontological perspective to see how these mechanisms have shaped the evolution of life on Earth.

I am interested in coastal ecology and have spent the past two summers studying the restoration of salt marshes and sand dunes along the Atlantic coast.

I do research with the Witman Lab here at Brown, where I study the biodiversity and community ecology of marine invertebrates and reef fish in the Galápagos Islands. I also run the 400m dash and 4x400m relay on Brown’s track and field team.
I study conservation genetics in the Kartzinel Lab. Specifically, my research is about how carrion fly communities respond to forest disturbance. I also enjoy finding ways to communicate science to the public in a clear, novel, and engaging way.
